Senior Backend Engineer (Ruby)

What we are looking for
As our new Senior Backend Engineer (Ruby) you will be joining one of the fastest growing departments in Mindful Chef, answering the tricky questions and working on some of the most interesting (and difficult) challenges in the organisation. You will likely be someone who is happy working in a fast-paced environment, has excellent attention to detail, good communication skills and a genuine desire to make an impact.
You are

  • A great communicator, with the ability to discuss product and technical issues with ease

  • A problem-solver, with a desire to get things done while working both independently and as a member of a team

  • Fluent with Ruby, Rails and associated ecosystems

  • Passionate about engineering

  • Knowledgeable of software design, caching, testing, RESTful APIs and the SDLC

  • Familiar with JSON: API/Spraypaint (desirable)

  • Knowledgeable of modern React and/or Vue frontend stacks (desirable)

  • Knowledgeable of dry-rb or writing functional Ruby (Railway Oriented Programming) (desirable)

You will

  • Mentor and support engineers across disciplines

  • Collaborate closely with your Scrum team architecting, designing, developing and deploying features

  • Ensure maintainability and scalability of the platform

  • Innovate and adapt improvements into the platform

  • Be helping us shape the future of the recipe box market

The process

  • 30 minute chat with the talent team - Informal and informative. This is an opportunity for you to find out more about the role, the company and our culture.

  • 90 minute technical interview - This will be with our Backend team and will be an opportunity for you to talk through your task, pair/ whiteboard on a new feature request and deep dive into our technology, challenges and goals.

  • 45 minute final stage - This will be with our Head of Engineering and will be an opportunity to speak with a peer within the team but also for you to ask any questions about our ways of working.
